Athletes Leadership Programme

Special Olympics Athlete Leadership is an empowerment program for matured athletes providing more opportunity take part in the Special Olympics Movement in meaningful roles in addition to being a sportsman or sportswoman.

Athlete Leadership Programme build capacities and social skills of athletes resulting in more self confidence and responsibility. Athlete Leaders become games volunteers, assistant coaches, public speaker, conducting event assessment as well as becoming health advocates.

Objective

  3. To build social acceptance and increase employment opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities

Topics for Athlete Leadership Empowerment

  • Global Messenger Training develops the skills of speaking in public
  • Governance Training offers understanding in policy and organization within the movement which is the basis for Athlete Leaders training to become games volunteers or members of working committee
  • IT Training provide coursework that enable Athlete Leaders to use Technology for communication and presenting ideas
  • ALPs as Health Advocate Athlete Leaders learn about healthy habits, nutrition and hygiene in order to become Health
  • ALPs as Volunteer as Volunteers is a program that build capacity of Athletes to use their strengths and skills to become volunteers in different function within an event organization.
  • Athlete Leaders who have excellent sports skills can learn how to become Assistant Coaches. Understanding of basic Warm-up & Cool Down, General Fitness and sports equipment care are included in this training.
